Lactose is the main type of natural sugar found in dairy products, including milk, yoghourt, some cheeses and icecream. An enzyme called lactase is needed to digest (or break down) the lactose before it can be used by the body. Problems with lactose can occur at different stages through life. Eating lactose-containing foods can be helped with the inclusion of foods containing ‘friendly’ probiotic cultures such as aBc and eating those foods with a meal.
The lactose levels in Jalna dairy foods vary and are less than 1-2.5 grams per 100 grams, 50-80% less than the average for natural yoghourts in Australia (based on figures referenced on Dairy Australia’s web site). |
