Nutritious Jalna yoghourt
Jalna Yoghourts contain no gluten, so they are suitable for people who need to choose gluten free products.
Plus they offer nutritious benefits like calcium, aBc cultures and protein and you can choose from fat free, low fat or whole milk varieties.
And because Jalna Yoghourt is pot set, Jalna doesn’t add anything artificial - no artificial sweeteners, colours, flavours, preservatives or thickeners like gelatine which is used to achieve the ‘set’ in stirred yoghourts.
Low GI
The glycaemic index or GI is a measure indicating the ability of the carbohydrates in different foods to raise blood glucose (sugar). Foods tested are then assigned a GI ranking and categorised into the low, medium or high GI groups.
GI testing is done in a laboratory. At present there are two GI testing laboratories in Australia that use the accepted methodology. The GI testing of the Jalna range of yoghourt was conducted at Sydney University GI Research, the first of these laboratories in Australia to offer this service.
Jalna Natural Yoghourt and Jalna Genuine Leben European Style Yoghourt are the lowest with a GI of 11, and all the range are low GI. Low GI foods are important to include in the diet. Low GI foods lead to a smaller increase in blood sugar levels and provide a sustained energy release
Reduced lactose
The lactose levels in Jalna dairy foods vary and are less than 1-2.5 grams per 100 grams, 50-80% less than the average for natural yoghourts in Australia (based on figures referenced on Dairy Australia’s web site).
Lactose is the main type of natural sugar found in dairy products, including milk, some cheeses and icecream. An enzyme called lactase is needed to digest (or break down) the lactose before it can be used by the body. Problems with lactose can occur at different stages through life. Eating lactose-containing foods can be helped with the inclusion of foods containing ‘friendly’ probiotic cultures such as aBc and eating those foods with a meal. |
