Are They Getting Enough Calcium?

The latest National Nutrition Survey revealed that 77% of girls and 64% of boys aged 12-15 years were not getting the recommended daily requirement for calcium.  In fact, girls of all ages (4-18 years) were not consuming adequate calcium.  This is alarming when you consider that this is the peak time for building strong bones.

Down at the dairy tips

  • Stock the fridge with plenty of choice in fresh dairy foods Strawberry_YOG_lunchbox

  • Go for fruity flavours of yoghourts or yoghourt drinks and include chilled, single-serve tubs in lunchboxes

  • Include a Jalna creamy yoghourt or low-fat ice-cream in place of cream on desserts like fruit salad

  • Substitute natural yoghourt for sour cream on baked potatoes

  • Melt low-fat cheese on toast or muffins or baked potato for lunch or snack.

  • Offer Jalna Yoghourt On The Go or smoothies with an extra dollop of yoghourt instead of soft drinks or cordials
