Men have a number of different health needs to women and certainly different dietary habits. Like women they need to manage a healthy weight and look after their heart and bones, but they also have unique needs like prostate health. Compared with women, they’re also more likely to have a greater average fat intake and lower dietary fibre intake, partly due to their poorer fruit consumption. And they’re also more likely to skip breakfast and drink 2 1/2 times more alcohol. On the positive side, their exercise levels are greater and they tend to have less dietary hang-ups than women. If they’re hungry, they eat what they want and don’t agonise over the decision! With greater recognition of the diet and health link, more and more men are waking up to the idea of maximising their wellbeing. So if you’ve been wondering what to feed that bloke in your family or are a motivated male, read on. This month we bring you smart strategies for men at different ages and stages.
