Delicious new summer yoghourt choices

In summer our thoughts turn to cool food and great taste sensations, like passionfruit. Well, the three new Jalna Yoghourt offerings have something for everyone this season.

Like all Jalna Yoghourt, both are naturally ‘pot set’ and contain over 600 million aBc cultures in each serve, with no added cane sugar, artificial sweeteners, colours, starches, food acids or gelatine that everyone is so concerned about. They are also gluten free, low lactose and low GI.

“Both Jalna Yoghourts offer the traditional Greek Style tangy taste, plus the classic thick and creamy texture, but the Low Fat option is 97% fat free and the other is still far lower in fat than alternatives like coconut milk or sour cream,” said Karen Inge. “While delicious on their own, they also suit a wide range of recipe choices to give a rich consistency to many dishes.”

Passionfruit Yoghourt Sorbet with Raspberries & Mango

1 egg white
2 tablespoons sugar
500g Jalna Low Fat Passionfruit Creamy Yoghourt
1 mango, peeled and finely diced
1 punnet fresh raspberries (or use frozen)
4 dried apricots, finely chopped

  • Whisk egg white and sugar until soft peaks form (meringue texture).  Blend yoghourt and mango and fold into egg mixture.  Pour into an ice cream maker and churn for 20 minutes.  If no ice cream maker available, pour mixture into a freezer tray, freeze for 1 hour, whisk to break up the ice crystals and freeze again.  Repeat and freeze until set.
  • Serve over raspberries, garnished with chopped apricots.

  • GREEKSTYLE_LOFAT_2_150Add Jalna Greek Style Natural Yoghourt to scrambled eggs, risotto, quiches or stir through soup just before serving for a creamier texture.  Add to meatballs for a lighter texture and serve with a combination of Jalna Low Fat Greek Style Natural Yoghourt and chopped mint as a sauce. 
  • Combine Jalna Low Fat Greek Style Natural Yoghourt with curry powder, seeded mustard, green shallots and pinch sugar.  Serve as a dip with vegetable crudités.
  • Combine Jalna Greek Style Natural Yoghourt and taco seasoning, stir into cooked chicken or beef and heat slowly for 5 minutes. Serve with rice or in tacos.
  • Marinating chicken, lamb or beef in Jalna Greek Style Natural Yoghourt before cooking tenderises plus adds flavour - combine Jalna Greek Style Natural Yoghourt and Thai red curry paste, tandoori paste or satay to taste.  Coat meat well, marinate 30 minutes and grill, bbq or stir fry.
  • Bake a salmon fillet in the oven and serve with a dollop of Jalna Greek Style Natural Yoghourt topped with dill.
